Somewhere on the south side of the island of Java between Jember and Banyuangi I made a pits stop sanitair and maybe something to eat. There were very nice people in this warung. The owner was a very skinny man and his wife was very thick (banyak daging). After a couple of hours' drive I'd liked to have a little bit of rest and a talk with these people and they offered me a meal. The food was very good but also they used a lot of sambal so I didn't eat much, only some rice with chicken. At a certain moment I saw the composition of the plates in front of me and suddenly I thought, hey, this could be a nice painting. I took a piece of paper and charcole from the car and made a scetch of this little bit of food. When I arrived home, I made the painting.
