Also in Kaliasem, but closer to the main road, I found this warung and it looked so charming, so relaxed, so inviting, as if it were smiling. I asked the owners for permission if I could sit about 7 to 8 meters from their warung and make a painting of their lovely place. Oh yes Please! they said, with big smiles and asked me what I would like to drink.
When I put up my easel and my canvas, there were already some locals there, but more stopped by and began sitting and lounging around and gawping at me. For them I was the attraction of the day the ‘orang pelukis' (artist). To make this painting was not a struggle but a joy. I worked there for three days and three days it was an atmosphere similar to a carnival, inviting and relaxing, with a happy feeling all around. The only thing left for me to do was to capture those feelings onto the canvas for this painting and I am happy with the result. |
