On the coast of Java, on a very hot day I saw this place and I wanted to capture it on canvas because the colors and the houses gave me a kind of a ‘Mondriaan' feeling that had an exceptional sort of harmony to it.
I took my easel and my canvas and I started to sketch and only started the painting after I made this wonderful mix of colors, everything looked so clean and vibrant which was unusual really and in a strange kind way full of harmony. All the lines and the colors look almost abstract, especially after I painted in all the laundry hanging out to dry, I feel very satisfied with this picture.
